This extension that has been available on Firefox for years has been ported by the author to Safari (and Chrome).

Notes:

After installing, it wouldn't work unless I opened a new tab or reloaded a webpage. Restarting Safari on my system was not required. To clear the ruler, click the toolbar button a second time. This extension doesn't work for me on all websites, e.g., Gmail.

There are some additional features this extension could benefit from, like ratio of W:H, dividers to break the image into thirds (via the Rule of Thirds and the Golden Ratio in photography), diagonal measurement, and single click to show the dimensions of a design element (div or image).

One of the major advantages Chrome has over Safari is the combined address and search bar. This plugin solves that problem in a big way, by eliminating the search bar in Safari and replacing it with an "Omnibar".

This translation extension will translate text that you've selected into a pre-set targeted language.

Just highlight text and hit the shift key (or any other key that you've configured) and a window will pop up with the translated text in it. A pretty handy way to do translations.

The options allow you to set your own hot-key and target language as well as configure how the pop-up window looks.

Saft is quite simply the vital extension for Safari. Its started life as a way of getting full screen/kiosk mode, but has grown to include many other features as well. Hao Li, the developer, is regularly adding new features, and updates are always available soon after a main Safari update.

Saft has a number of versions depending on which Mac OS and Safari version you're using. Currently available for download as of June 24, 2010:

Browser extension developed by Disconnect, Inc. stops Facebook from following you around the Interwebs and tracking your browsing behavior, through their widgets, for their own benefit.

Facebook is the recently most visible offender in that it has been identified that they will track your browsing behavior to websites that have their widgets installed -- even if you are logged out of Facebook.

This extension will block this behavior from Facebook.

Disconnect, Inc. also provides a more comprehensive extension called "Disconnect" that identifies such behavior from many third-party sites, blocks it, and reports it to you in the toolbar button.

JavaScript Blocker puts you in control of which scripts are allowed on any given domain. It can run in one of two ways: blocking mode, or allowing mode.

Blocking mode lets you allow a select few scripts on a domain-specific basis, while allowing mode lets you block them instead. In either mode, you can choose to create automatic rules to allow or block scripts based on if they come from the domain of the page you are viewing or not.

A whitelist and blacklist are automatically installed, but can be manually removed if desired.

MiniStumble gives you a new extension bar with a 'Stumble!' button, a 'Share this Page' button, a 'Show Info' button, and an information area that will attempt to ask StumbleUpon for the page title and # of views reported, using the StumbleUpon badge API. Seems to me this is how it works... 1. Look up plumber in Google 2. See phone number there. 3. Click said phone number (right click, context menu?) 4. iPhone makes phone call.

If you're like me, you end up with dozens of tabs open in Safari, the tabs too small to read, and half of them hidden away in the menu on the right.

With this extension, you can limit the number of tabs that Safari will open to a number configurable by you. If you exceed the number of tabs, the left-most tab (that's not protected) will silently disappear.

You can designate a certain number of tabs on the left to be "Safe" from removal.

I use this extension in conjunction with the OpenAtEnd extension which makes the behavior very predictable. The combination of the two allows me to get something close to the "Pin" tabs functionality in Chrome.

Facebook Quick View offers a nice uh, quick way to view your facebook updates.

Unfortunately, I've been getting a bit too used to using Facebook with the Facebook Improved extension, which hides a lot of the annoying app notices that people post.

This extension has no settings, though it does require that you grant the extension's facebook app access to your facebook account the first time you use it.
