With the launch of Lion and Safari 5.1, 1Password has rewritten their plugin to be a Safari Extension. Apparently Apple changed some stuff up on them, forcing their hand in the change. But it's probably just better for them so they can get it listed in the Safari Extension Gallery.
I've had a good experience with the new extension up until just this afternoon when it went completely unresponsive on me. At first, I thought I ran into some catastrophic problem where all my logins were gone -- this is what some people are complaining about on Twitter.
After clicking around on the popup, it just became clear to me that the extension was somehow broken. None of the buttons did anything, which feels a lot like all my data is gone.
At first, I thought maybe another extension was interfering. (I install a lot of extensions!) So I removed all other extensions.
That still didn't work...I restarted Safari. No luck. I restarted my computer. No dice.
Next step, remove and re-install the 1Password extension. (Not sure why I didn't try this first!)
To re-install the extension, you need to do this through the 1Password app. Open preferences and under browsers is a button to install the extension in Safari. This just kicks off the normal extension installation routine.
When I did this, everything started working again.
