Saw the new @1Password extension briefly, then updated 1Password and it went back to older version

posted by pimpmysafari on (9 months, 3 weeks ago)

A pictures's worth a thousand words, see above.

But here's what happened...

I saw the tweets about the new version.

  1. I uninstalled the extension
  2. I restarted 1Password (without updating first)
  3. Got the notice to install the extension and let it.

The newest extension with the interface I see in 1Password's latest blog post was visible.

Then I upgraded 1Password.

I may have reinstalled the extension just to be sure that I followed all the steps, but I got the old version back again.

I've gone through the steps several times, with many option-command-Q restarts and I'm stuck with the 3.7.b2 somehow.

Anyone else?

Spread the word!

The problem was that I didn't have "Include beta versions" checked in 1Password, and therefore I wasn't getting the latest 1Password that had the latest extension.

    Hi PimpMySafari,

If you uninstall the extension and then install it again from the main 1Password app, it will install the specific version stored inside the 1Password app. Meaning that, every time you install the 1Password extension manually in 1Password, it’ll be the same version as that was bundled with the app.

In the case of 1Password 3.7, it would be 3.7b2, so that’s why you always saw 3.7b2 whenever you install it again. The new extension interface is in a newer version, 3.7b4. So you have to wait for Safari to update your extension to the latest version or you can force it in Safari > Preferences > Extensions.

I hope that explains what’s going on.

Mike, thank you. The issue was I wasn't allowing the 1Password beta to be installed and therefore, I wasn't getting the latest extension packaged in it.

BTW, Mike, I just looked and that detail about getting the Beta version of 1Password could be more prominent in the install info you posted here, which I followed. I just didn't make it to the bottom of the page.

    Hi,

We’re working on improving our documentations, thanks for the suggestion.

You don’t need the latest beta of 1Password in order to get the latest extension version, just have to update 1Password and then give Safari a chance to update the extension for you in the background.

Meaning that even with 1Password 3.7, you can still use the 1Password extension 3.7b7 in Safari 5.1.

Thanks for sharing your experience with our Safari 5.1 extension, it’ll help us improve the experience for other users as well.
